This revolutionary football helmet could be what players and parents have waited 50 years for.

Helmet technology has not changed in the last 50 years.  That's five-zero.

This story of a Riverside family still coming to terms with the loss of their son from a football head injury is yet another reminder that even 5 years is too long to wait for technology that can improve safety for those playing the sports we love.

In recent years, the NFL, along with partners such as Under Armour and GE, have brought increased attention to the issue of helmet safety through initiatives like the Head Health Challenge.

One challenge winner is developing a revolutionary new helmet that boasts an impact absorbing structure designed to mitigate forces likely to cause concussions.

Vicis, Inc., the team behind the helmet, is based out of the University of Washington and made up of thought-leading neurosurgeons, mechanical engineers, and business leaders committed to using science to protect athletes.

This helmet of the future could soon be the helmet of today, according the Vicis CEO David Marver. GeekWire
Reports:

“WE ARE WORKING WITH GREAT DETERMINATION TO BRING THIS HELMET TO MARKET IN 2016,” MARVER SAID.
Saving and improving lives through innovation is a common theme in the TED world. One of our favorite TEDTalks here at TEDxTemecula is by a 12 year old boy from Kenya, who invented a solar-powered solution he designed to safely scare lions away.

Attending a TED or TEDx conference, sharing a TEDTalk, discussing new ideas with your friends and coworkers — these are all
ways to help stimulate innovation from the villages in Africa to the football fields of the Inland Empire.

Sports innovation is right at home here in Temecula. Our very own
NZN Labs has recently launched LITPro, a system engineered to make Motocross athletes smarter and faster on every lap.

Pain can be a great driver for change. Hopefully, the trials and tribulations of athletes, their families, friends, and teammates be a catalyst for improving sports now and in the generations to come.
